Too cold for a hike

The wind chill was in the single digits most of the day today. I decided it was too cold to go on a hike. I took a short hike yesterday and my face was very cold by the time I got back. And it was colder today. It was very difficult to not go on a hike. I really wanted to go out. I did take some pictures around the yard of the snow.

The following are some pictures I took yesterday on my hike using my iPod Touch. I did not want to take my Nikon out in the heavily falling snow. We got about 4 - 6 inches of snow Saturday.

Panoramic mode of the iPod Touch

The lens on the iPod Touch is too close to the edge of the device. It is too easy to get a finger in the way

The following pictures were taken the next day in my back yard.

After the Arctic Blast

Here are a few photo's from around my yard after the second snow of the new year. We had a low of -40 degrees that day. I think it was only -30 when I took these pictures.

Sunrise

I was in the kitchen this morning making my breakfast before taking my daughter to work when I noticed the sunrise. It was starting to producing some nice colors. This was a delima because I did not have much time left, I was making some tea (Irish Breakfast Tea from Adagio.com), I had breakfast on the stove, no shoes on and wearing only a tea shirt and pajamas. The temperature was in the teens.

Well as you can see below I did manage to get a few photo's of the sunrise. I missed the peak colors by a few minutes and did not have a real good vantage point to take the pictures. But I am still happy with the shots.

Trail Head Park in the snow

After the snow on the 1st and 2nd of January I hiked the Wabash Heritage Trail starting from Trail Head Park. It was an enjoyable hike. From the tracks in the snow I could see I was not the first person to hike this part of the trail after the snow. But after a couple of miles it was just down to me and someone riding a bike. The bike rider lasted longer than I did.

First Day hike

I took my first "First Day Hike" at Turkey Run State Park this year. I had heard about it from their Facebook page about a week or two before. The link above is about the hike I went on. I am even in one or two of the pictures. Though it is hard to see me.

I hiked with the group for an hour or two then when it was over I hiked by myself for a few more hours. It was chilly at the beginning but it warmed up nicely later in the day. I did not stay as late as I would have liked too have because a snow storm was predicted to start in the afternoon or evening.

Lafayette did get about 3-4 inches of snow. Then a few days later we receive a lot more snow and an Arctic blast passed through. The wind chill dropped to -40 on Monday.
