I do not know what this is. A seed pod of some sort I assume. I found it partially torn open. I tore it open the rest of the way to see inside better.
I had not intended to shoot this in monochrome. I was taking pictures of other things earlier in monochrome and forgot to change back to color before taking this photo. It looks OK in monochrome.
While on my hike this morning I came across this turtle. I think it was a Snapping Turtle. When I first saw it I was about 20 feet away. I dropped my backback, pulled out my tripod, mounted my camera with its 50mm lens on the tripod and took a shot. I moved closer and took another shot. I did this for about 15 minutes and the turtle only looked my way once then looked forward again. It did not seem to worried about my presence.
So naturally I moved much closer than you probably should to a "Snapping" turtle. As you can see below I was very close. Within a couple of feet.
After taking a several photo's I decided the bit of dried grass across its eye needed to go. I took a looong stick and brushed the grass away from its eye. Still not much of a reaction from the turtle.
The minimum focusing distance of the 50mm prime lens I was using is 1.5 feet. I had moved past that a one point and had to move the tripod back to be to get the turtle in focus again.
Eventually the turtle did sand up and start to leave. I took a few more photo's and then backed off. It sat back down then. It did turn around to face me at that point.
Here are a few photo's I took.

It was a dark and wet hike the day I came apron these wet slipper shoes. I saw them and thought. OK. And kept on walking. Then stopped, looked back and decided to see what I could do with the scene. The more I look at the photo the more I like it.
