When I first started my hike Sunday it was very early in morning, about 100% humidity and very overcast. Then it stated to mist. So I kept my camera in by backpack most of the time. The times the weather was not to bad I was in an area where there was not much to photograph. I did see some interesting buildings on the campus I would like to photograph some time but they were very close together and had lots of tree around them. I did not see very may good vantage points to photograph from. Maybe with a wide angle lens. Something I have been thinking about getting.
The best thing about this weekend was it was a 3 day weekend, so I went someplace special on Monday. I will leave that for the next post.
I started Saturday's from Trail Head Park and walked north towards the Battleground side of the Wabash Heritage Trail.
The next three photo's are of and around Blue Heron Island. It is a small island on the Wabash. I have seen a few Blue Heron's on my hike's but have not been able to take a good photo of one. I mostly notice them as they are flying away. The sand bar is normally under several feed of water.
I have walked by this island many times, but have not been able to take any pictures of it from the trail. There are to many trees in the way. But right now the river is very low so I was able to climb down on to a sand bar to take some photo's.

It took me a long time to find a way to cross from the sand bar connected to trail and the sand bar connected to the island. But I figured it would be worth it. I would the be first one over. I tried jumping across, but I aborted each time. I am not much of a jumper. I look around for logs or branch's I could use to lay across the water. I eventually found an old board and used it to make the jump shorter.
When I got across I found these foot prints in the sand of bare feet. Someone much smarter than me took their shoes off and walked across the water.

The turn around point for the hike was at Davis Ferry Bridge. This was the only photo of the bridge worth showing. The sun was to intense by this time. I will bring a polarizing filter next time.
One of my goals on this trip was to try to photograph with a wider depth of field. Many of my flower and mushroom photo's only show part of the plant or mushroom in focus. My understanding was that higher f-stops would give greater depth of field. So that is what I tried. Since I was using a higher f-stop I needed to use a slower shutter speed and tripod.
Most of the photo's were washed out or out of focus. I guess I will need to do some more reading to find out what went wrong.
