Here are a few test shots of the late afternoon sun the Sunday before the Eclipse (D-1). I wanted to test the welding lens I was going to use as a filter. Also I wanted to see how fast the sun would move through the view finder. I needed to know how often I would need to adjust the camera position.
This was a good test. The filer was not distorting the colors (some welding lens will turn the images green). I was able to take shots for several minutes befoe having to adjust the position camera. I worked though several combinations of f-stops and shutter speeds.
I was originally disapointed in the size of the sun in the images. So much so that I went to bed Sunday night deciding to not drive down south to see the full ecplise! It is a 4 and a half hour drive normally. With all the traffic it will much worse.
As you can see after cropping the quality of the images was still ok. I was using a 150mm lens. Hopefully for the 2024 Eclipse I have bought a larger lens.
